Two new acquisitions of Islamic artefacts take pride of place at the heart of new displays in the Faith in Birmingham Gallery at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, following a multi-faith launch event held recently.

Major new art and technology exhibition to open at Birmingham Museum & Gallery

• I Want! I Want! Art and Technology, An Arts Council Collection National Partner Exhibition opens 1 April – 1 October 2017 in the Gas Hall• Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery’s most ambitious exhibition exploring art and technology through contemporary art practice dating from 1995 to the present day• The exhibition includes 27 artists and collectives and over 30 artworks, principally selected from the Arts Council Collection, including film, sculpture and paintings

I Want! I Want! Art and Technology, opening at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery on the 1 April, explores work from the Arts Council Collection by artists that have been influenced by technology as it has developed and evolved over the last 20 years. Mysterious Half Term happenings at Birmingham Museums

Things are getting mysterious at Birmingham Museums this half term as families can take part in murder mystery trails at Aston Hall, delve into the world of Middle Earth at Sarehole Mill and find out about the mystery of the Staffordshire Hoard at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery.

There will also be plenty of arts and crafts fun across our sites and even the chance to meet some animals at Blakesley Hall for those little ones who love all creatures great and small. Renowned Birmingham photographer Verity Milligan hosts first solo exhibition at Museum of the Jewellery Quarter

Stunning images of iconic Birmingham locations will be going on display at the Museum of the Jewellery Quarter this weekend, as renowned Birmingham photographer Verity Milligan hosts her first solo exhibition in the city.

The six month exhibition, opening to the public on Saturday 28th January, will showcase fifteen of Verity’s popular images. The exhibition includes some of Verity’s most well-known photographs, including Cherry Blossom at the Ikon Gallery and Sunrise over Selfridges, along with images of the Jewellery Quarter and Birmingham’s canals. Teacup Travels brings you closer to the artefacts at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery

Drop in to Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery to see up close the real artefacts that inspired Charlotte’s adventure in ‘Teacup Travels’, the exciting second series has just started on CBeebies. What’s more, Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery helped this epic tale come to life.

Teacup Travels is a treasure trove of epic adventure stories, which inspires audiences up and down the country by opening the door to ancient worlds and civilizations to young viewers. Each 15 minute episode revolves around Great Aunt Lizzie telling her fictional adventures in Ancient Greece, Edo Japan, the Viking Lands and the Mayan Empire and each story features a replica of an ancient artefact from a museum somewhere in the UK. Budget cuts to Birmingham Museums Trust could force closures

Proposed funding cuts by Birmingham City Council will significantly impact Birmingham’s position as a leading UK and European city for arts and culture and Birmingham Museums Trust is calling on the public to show their support ahead of the £500,000 proposed budget cuts to the city’s unique museums and heritage sites.

A number of options to manage the funding reduction are being considered, but the current proposed cuts could result in the closure of some of the city’s most important heritage and culture venues, including Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, Thinktank Science Museum, Aston Hall, Blakesley Hall, Museum of the Jewellery Quarter, Sarehole Mill, Soho House and Weoley Castle. Fundraising success at Birmingham Museum

The great and the good of Birmingham’s business community helped to raise over £11,000 at a fundraising dinner auction held at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery (BMAG), which will support Birmingham Museums’ work with the people and communities of Birmingham.

Guests enjoyed dinner in the elegant Victorian surroundings of the Industrial Gallery before bidding in an auction to raise funds. Items up for auction included a rooftop tour of BMAG and a tour of the Staffordshire Hoard conservation studios. Read More...
